Squads added to Fortnite's Battle Royale ahead of today's free-to-play launch

Duos coming once enough players are in.

The extremely familiar Battle Royale mode of Fortnite is arriving today for free and brings with it the addition of a team mode.

It should surprise no-one following the development of this game mode that the co-operative element is called Squads, nor that its upcoming two-player option is called Duos.

There’s more than a little PUBG in the blood of this free-to-play last-man-standing survivathon, but that hasn’t stopped Gearbox pressing full ahead.

Fortnite’s crafting underskin will also make it into the mode which may be enough to offer a bit of variation, but the main takeaway is that Fortnite Battle Royale is out on consoles while PUBG is still languishing with an Xbox One release only just on the horizon.

Console players can get their fix today by downloading the free-to-play version of Fortnite when it is made available in their region’s stores.
