CD Projekt Red Reveals The Witcher 3 GOTY Edition

Why gamers on consoles will have a rough go of it in The Witcher 3 Game of the Year Edition.

Developer CD Projekt Red recently offered some clarification on how save game files and achievements/trophies will be handled for The Witcher 3’s upcoming Game of the Year edition, and the news is unfortunately not very good for console players.

First off, CD Projekt Red’s community manager Marcin Momot confirmed that save files from the original version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won’t be transferable over to the GOTY edition on Xbox One and PlayStation 4:

"The save files on consoles won't be compatible between different game versions (GOTY vs regular version) as they are treated by systems as separate products. This is something that's not up to us. Sorry."

Momot later clarified via Twitter that the save files will be transferable between the standard and GOTY editions on PC:

In a separate tweet, Momot also confirmed that the GOTY edition will have its own separate achievements/trophies list, which means that players will still be able to unlock achievements/trophies in the GOTY edition even if they already unlocked them in the standard edition. The Witcher 3’s Game of the Year edition is scheduled to launch on August 30 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
