15 Minutes of Vampyr Pre-Alpha Gameplay Revealed

Awaken as a vampire in the first fifteen minutes of Vampyr gameplay footage.

Vampyr, the upcoming title from developer Dontnod Entertainment (Life is Strange) and publisher Focus Home Interactive, is a dark tale about how one man copes with the realization that he is a vampire. With a chilling aesthetic and gothic atmosphere, it’s not hard to see why so many gamers are excited for the release of Vampyr. When we were at the PC Game Show at E3 2016, the crew from IO had the chance to see a preview of Vampyr. Excited for the game, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the announcement of an official release date.

As of right now, the release date is slated for sometime next year and will release across platforms including the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While we may not know a precise date of release, we were treated to 15 minutes of Vampyr gameplay at this year’s Gamescom event. Needless to say... we’re more excited than ever before!

The video itself opens with protagonist Doctor Jonathan Reid coming to the realization that he has become a vampire. Obviously, this condition comes with various implications. In addition to the introduction to the game’s main plot, the video showcases other characters in the game, dialogue options, player journals, and more. As the footage progresses, you follow Dr. Reid as he explores the streets of London and learns more about his powers including the ability to see and determine the quality of blood coursing through the veins of London's citizens.

This aspect will aid players in deciding whether to drink the blood of a person who deserves to die (such as a murderer) represented with poor quality blood, or someone with pure blood who does not deserve to die. If you drink too much blood, there will naturally be severe repercussions, which adds an element of strategy to Vampyr's main theme of action role-playing.True to Dontnod’s previous title, Life is Strange, player actions will have a butterfly effect as every NPC you kill directly affects the city around you.
