National Video Games Day: Gaming For a Good Cause

Today is National Video Games Day, and serves as a celebration for gaming across all platforms and genres. The camaraderie gamers share with each other is always a beautiful sight, especially when working together to benefit a good cause.

The charity Extra Life is one of those great causes.

Indie Obscura is teaming up with LevelCamp to do a 24-hour livestream in effort to support the Extra Life charity. For those who are unfamiliar with this organization, Extra Life raises money in support of Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. You can also sign up to play your part in supporting this charity on Extra Life’s website.

Once you’ve signed up, pick a day and commit yourself to playing games for 24 hours. If you’re unable to commit to a certain day, or are unable to complete the gaming duration you can choose to put your game time wherever it works best for you. The funds raised for Extra Life go directly to the Children’s Miracle Network hospital of your choice in an “unrestricted funds” format.

This means that the hospital is able to decide where to put the money in order to make the biggest impact possible. This money could go to things like research, life-saving equipment, or even uncompensated care for families of children unable to manage the medical expenses.
