The Witcher 3 Won't Receive a PlayStation 4 Pro Upgrade

CD Projekt Red will focus on new games instead of giving The Witcher 3 a PS4 Pro boost.

A sizeable number of developers were quick to announce that their games will receive software updates to take advantage of the recently unveiled PlayStation 4 Pro. However, one game that won’t see an update is the PS4 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

When asked by Eurogamer whether the PS4 version of The Witcher 3 will get a PS4 Pro software update, developer CD Projekt Red said that it would rather focus on its two upcoming projects, the standalone Gwent card game and its upcoming sci-fi title, Cyberpunk 2077.

"Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent, and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one would be too much of a time- and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro."

CD Projekt Red’s decision to not update the PS4 version of The Witcher 3 for PS4 Pro is somewhat surprising, since the PC version of the game already supports native 4K resolutions (the PS4 Pro will allow games to be played in 4K with full HDR support), but the studio’s desire to not distract itself from its other projects is admirable.

In the meantime, plenty of other PS4 games will get PS4 Pro software updates. Plus, The Witcher 3 on PS4 already looks incredible.
