Five Nights At Freddy's: Sister Location Could Be Delayed

Creator Scott Cawthon hasn’t decided on a concrete release date.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location, a spin-off game set in developer Scott Cawthon’s popular horror series Five Nights at Freddy’s, was originally supposed to launch on October 7th (this upcoming Friday), but now Cawthon has announced he is considering a possible delay due to the game’s subject matter.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has always dealt with dark and disturbing subject matter, especially considering they revolve around possessed animatronics who stalk and try to kill the player inside the titular restaurant. However, Cawthon admitted in a recent post on the Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location Steam page that the game’s plot elements may be too dark... even for him:

“Hey guys, I wanted to post an announcement that this game might be postponed, and I’m not really sure when it would be released. There are certain plot elements that are very dark, to the point where I sometimes feel sick. There would be no easy fix to this. I either release it Friday as it is, or I delay it by several months to completely rework the plot into something kid-friendly. I’m unsure what I’m going to do. As always, thanks for your support.”

Many fans are assuming that this is some sort of trolling attempt on Cawthon’s part to drum up anticipation for the game. Whether or not this is the case, the divide between those who want him to just release the game as is and those who’d rather he be happy with his work even if it means delaying it for several months seems to be evenly split down the center. As of this time of this writing, Cawthon hasn’t provided any further updates, leaving fans to wonder just what will happen come Friday.
