Cuphead has sold over 125,000 copies

Near enough to the top of the Steam charts.

The hype around Cuphead seems to have translated into sales, with early estimates from data-scraping website SteamSpy suggesting it has sold in excess of 125,000 copies.

That's pretty exciting news for developer StudioMDHR, who will also be counting receipts from the Windows Store separately. That's sure to bring the total to at least 125,007.

Cuphead is one of the most distinctive games of the year, sporting visuals and music inspired by 1930s animation, and the game itself has a pretty old-fashioned approach to difficulty as well, driving some critics spare with its boss-rush intensity.

If the success of Dark Souls and similar games is anything to go by, that kind of notoriety will only help the game, which remains close to the top of the Steam best-seller charts at the time of writing, tussling with Total War: Warhammer II and Divinity: Original Sin 2 for top spot.
