Vampyr's Newest Teaser Trailer Hints at the Darkness Within

Learn more about Vampyr’s murderous gameplay elements.

To close out 2016, Vampyr developer Dontnod Entertainment unveiled a brand new teaser trailer entitled The Darkness Within. While the newest glimpse at Vampyr is short (clocking in just under 2 minutes), it offers up an interesting look at the detailed gameplay.

Dontnod Entertainment have made action-based consequences a main staple in their games alongside adept storytelling. For example, anyone who has played Life is Strange will remember the game’s varied butterfly effects. If you’re unfamiliar with Dontnod’s titles, a similar mechanic was used in the popular PlayStation 4 exclusive, Until Dawn.

The same rule of thumb will be applied within Vampyr, albeit with grimmer outcomes. Vampyr is shaping up to be Dontnod’s maturest title to date, which means players can expect to be presented with difficult, moral-shaking questions. You have to kill to survive, and you are given the ability to pick and choose your next meal. However, that doesn’t make the act any easier.

As with Life is Strange, players may come to a heartbreaking conclusion based upon their decisions. With no shortage of blood, gore, and murder, Vampyr is shaping up to be one of 2017’s biggest indie game releases.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t reveal any new clues as to the exact release date. Instead, fans were treated to stunning visuals and a fascinating video description:

“In Vampyr, every citizen killed will affect London’s safety. From shop closures to missing kin, the act of killing is unavoidable, but who you kill, and how, is in your hands. Every civilian can be killed, or saved – but as hordes of vampire hunters prowl the streets, growing strong on the blood of the weak will be ever more tempting.”

With a high emphasis on choice, it will be interesting to see the many different routes and directions available. Will you choose the path of evil, the path of good, or a shade of gray in-between? Stay tuned to find out more about the upcoming indie game, Vampyr!
