Nintendo Confirms eShop will be Available at Nintendo Switch Launch

In celebration of the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo will also be hosting a special indie game showcase this Tuesday.

In a recent briefing, Nintendo confirmed that the eShop will be available at the time of the Nintendo Switch launch on March 3rd and will include a lineup of downloadable indie titles.

In celebration of the platform’s upcoming “Nindie” games, Nintendo went on to announce the “Nindies Showcase” presentation scheduled for Tuesday, February 28th at 9 a.m. (PST). To view the presentation, you can check out the livestream over on the Nintendo website.

The Nintendo eShop is set to house over 60 indie titles for the Nintendo Switch in addition to digital versions of packaged games (like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), DLC content, and more.

Three indie titles available for the Nintendo Switch on March 3rd include:

  • Fast RMX - A Nintendo Switch exclusive racing title where you can challenge your friends in a race to the finish line, or compete with other racers online.
  • Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment - The latest DLC for the hit indie game Shovel Knight, which introduces the Specter Knight and a host of new content. The Specter of Torment DLC will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch for a limited time.
  • Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - For fans of Shovel Knight, a new Treasure Trove bundle will be offered, featuring the base game and all previously released DLC (including Specter of Torment). The Treasure Trove bundle will also be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch for a limited time.

In addition to the three confirmed indie launch titles, Nintendo also shared the following information about the functionality of the eShop on the Nintendo Switch:

  • To access the eShop on the Nintendo Switch, players are first required to install a system update available on March 3rd. The update will download in the background and is designed to install quickly so as to not disrupt gameplay.
  • Players who already have account funds across other Nintendo devices can use them on the Nintendo Switch via the shared wallet feature. To access Nintendo funds on the Switch, all players need to do is link their Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo Account.
  • The Nintendo eShop will include a "news" feature that offers updates about recent additions as well as information about upcoming games and updates from Nintendo.
  • Virtual Console games will not be available on the Nintendo Switch at launch, though more information is set to be revealed in the future.
  • Following the initial visit to the Nintendo eShop, players will then be able to purchase Nintendo Switch digital games over on the Nintendo website. Once the games are purchased, they will download automatically to the Nintendo Switch system both at home and on the go (as long as a Wi-Fi is enabled and in use).

To learn more about the Nintendo Switch prior to its release on March 3rd, be sure to check out the system’s official page on the Nintendo website.
