How to Take a Screenshot on the Nintendo Switch

Find out how to take screenshots and capture the most beautiful gaming moments on your Nintendo Switch.

Taking beautiful in-game screenshots is one of the many features people are looking forward to trying out on the Nintendo Switch. With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild being such a scenic launch title, it’s imperative that you know how to execute this feature at a moment’s notice. Luckily, Nintendo knew this and has made taking screenshots on the Nintendo Switch a cinch.

Located on the bottom-right of your Joy-Con (L) controller is a square button with a circular indentation on it. Pressing this button will take a screenshot of whatever is up on your screen, whether you’re playing a game, browsing the E-Shop, or in your system settings.

Screenshots automatically save into your internal storage. You can change this in your system settings under Data Management and Manage Save Data/Screenshots so that it saves to your microSD memory card. You can also delete screenshots here or through accessing the photo album on the Nintendo Switch home screen.

Although the screenshot button doesn’t capture video or initiate a live stream like many would’ve hoped, you are able to edit your screenshots and post them. Nintendo has confirmed that they will be adding the ability to record video to the Switch in the future but there’s still no mention of when we can expect that to feature to arrive.

Despite the disappointing news about streaming and video, we’re still very excited that we’ll be able to take screenshots and share some of our most memorable gaming moments with our friends on the Nintendo Switch, and we’re positive that you are too!
