Best Tips for Winning in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

It's killed or be killed in PlayerUnknown's newest title, Battlegrounds.

With the arrival of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, people have been searching for the best tips they can find in order to help them earn their desired place as the last player standing. While you can attempt to rely on sheer luck and some great shooting skills, a master at survival knows that there are still steps you need to take in this game in order to gain a significant advantage over other players.

Tip #1: Location Is Everything

The first thing you’ll do in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is eject from the plane. People tend to turn this into a race but play it smart and take your time. While making your descent to the island below, use the Alt key to freelook and make note of where other players are dropping.

Try your best to keep your distance from other players. Don't land too closely to others and make sure you're aiming for a spot that has a good amount of searchable structures. The closer to the cities you get, the more equipment you’ll find, which will be essential to your survival.

Use the W key while aiming in the direction you want to land to fall faster, and don't worry about forgetting to pull out your parachute. It'll open automatically once you get close enough to the ground.

Tip #2: Examine Your Loot

As soon as you land, head towards the closest structure to start looting. Don’t pick up everything you see, but optimize your inventory with things you know that you'll benefit from. For instance, if you find an attachment for a gun that you don’t have but it looks pretty good take it. You never know when it might come in handy.

To quickly loot items and avoid that time-consuming animation, press tab when picking up loot. This will bring up a list of nearby items alongside your current inventory, then use right click to cherry pick equipment you want to add to your inventory.

Tip #3: Load Your Guns

When you find a gun in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, make sure to look around for ammo. If you find ammo, immediately load it into your gun. You don’t want to be caught in the line of fire with an empty clip. To quickly equip your weapon in the heat of battle, use the numbers on your keyboard.

For better aim, double right click to see down the barrel of your gun and use the scope. As you play, you’ll start to get a feel for the type of guns you like to use. For beginners, we advise trying out an assault rifle/shotgun combo. This will keep you prepared for close quarters and long distance combat.

Tip #4: Upgrade Your Equipment

Don’t fall victim to settling for the first equipment you find. When scavenging for items in Battlegrounds open-world map, make sure to check the stats and compare it to what you have now. If it looks better then switch it out or put it in your inventory for later.

See our article with the complete map and all the locations for reference on great places for weapons and armor. Additionally, check out our complete weapons and stats list to see which weapons are worth grabbing.

Armor is a unique instance where you might want to avoid strictly opting for high-level stats. Durability is also an important factor that you don’t want to skimp out on, especially when you're cursing yourself for being arrogant in your struggle to find another vest. Although, a high-level helmet can keep you from getting sniped.

Tip #5: Always Stay Alert

Most importantly, this is the survival tip that will earn you the spot of last man or woman standing in Battlegrounds: Stay alert. Turn that volume up, and listen for any nearby gunshots, vehicles, and footsteps.

To minimize the amount of sound you make while moving inside of a building, use the crouch button since running makes a ton of noise and will signal enemies of your presence. Make sure to always close doors behind you because an open door usually means that there's an enemy nearby.

Lastly, remember to keep your health up at all times, and at all costs. You’d be surprised at how lucky you can get with more health on your side during an intense round of gunfire.
