Check out the weapons we'll be firing when Samus Returns on 3DS

Samus shows off her moves.

Metroid: Samus Returns is arriving this Friday, and our heroine is bringing a whole host of updated weaponry with her. Along with the usual power beam, charge shot and missiles, Samus can now melee opponents and free-aim in all directions using a variety of beam variants highlighted in a new trailer.

The Spazer beam fires three projectiles at once, letting you cover a wider area, while the Wave beam passes through surfaces, letting you safely snipe from afar. The plasma beam combines the best of both, firing three powerful projectiles that pierce enemies.

You’ll also have access to the revamped Ice beam. As well as slowing enemies down, the trailer reveals you’ll also be able to weight down flying monsters, causing them to plummet to the ground.

Samus’s movement options have been spruced up too. An upgraded grapple beams lets you smoothly traverse the environment, move certain obstacles and even drag enemies off the walls. All the metroid classic’s return, including spider ball, power bomb and screw attack.

In addition, Samus now has four Aeion abilities, Scan Pulse, Lightning Armor, Beam Burst and Phase Drift. Each offers a unique benefit, from detecting hidden paths to powerful attacks or even manipulating time — at the cost of limited resources.

Metroid: Samus Returns releases on 3DS, September 15th.
