While PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been rapidly escalating in popularity, so have the queries from players about the low and inconsistent FPS. We can assure you that for the most part, it doesn’t have to do with you unless you’re trying to run the game on a computer that doesn’t meet the minimum PC requirements.
This common problem is due to the fact that the game is still in Early Access on Steam and has not yet been optimized. Because of this, we’ve put together a simple guide on how to increase your FPS while playing Battlegrounds.
The first thing you should do is change your Steam launch settings to the following:
malloc=system +mat_antialias 0 window -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -sm4

Next, you’ll want to open your File Explorer and navigate to the path below. If you can’t find your AppData folder, make sure you have your Folder Explorer settings set to show hidden folders.
AppData\Local\TslGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
In this folder, you’ll find an initialization file called GameUserSettings.ini
Before editing this file, it’s recommended that you make a copy of it and keep it somewhere safe. This is in the case you want to return your settings to normal.
Next, open the file. You’ll see a lot of text but don’t be intimidated. The first settings you’ll want to adjust are under the category [ScalabilityGroups]. Change all the settings under this to the following:

sg.ViewDistanceQuality=2
sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0
sg.ShadowQuality=0
sg.PostProcessQuality=0
sg.TextureQuality=1
sg.EffectsQuality=0
sg.FoliageQuality=0
Changing sg.ResolutionQuality to 100 will ensure that you’re playing at an optimum resolution. Depending on your computer, you could set sg.ViewDistanceQuality to 0 but that’s only if your computer truly can’t handle Battlegrounds all that well, but setting this to 2 should be fine. Next, adjust sg.TextureQuality to 1 and the rest of the options in this group should be set to 0. This should maximize your FPS.
The next category you’ll make changes to in the file are under [/Script/TslGame.TslGameUserSettings].

bMotionBlur=False
bUseVSync=False
ResolutionSizeX=1920
ResolutionSizeY=1080
FullscreenMode=1
Make sure that bMotionBlur and bUseVSync are set to False. ResolutionSizeX and ResolutionSizeY should reflect your computer’s current resolution settings. FullscreenMode should be set to 1 which will launch your game in fullscreen mode. It’s important to note that this is the best way to optimize your FPS in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Once this is done, you can save the file. Before completely closing out all the windows, right click on the file, select Properties and ensure that the Read Only box is checked off. This will prevent the game from writing over the file.
