Which makes sense, considering Wolves at the Door is one of the trickier quests in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court. It’s full of difficult enemies, including Brigand Vvulf.

To help you out, we’ve put together a guide on how to beat the Wolves at the Door quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court.

How to Beat the Wolves at the Door Quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court

Before you take on the Wolves at the Door quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court, it's best to come prepared.

The first trick to beating the Wolves at the Door quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court is coming prepared. One way to ensure you’re prepared for this quest is to bring four shovels with you, as you’ll need them after you defeat Brigand Vvulf in order to score a nice treasure drop.

Next, bring four different Level 1 heroes that you don’t mind sacrificing should the Wolves at the Door quest spring up before you’re ready. While it may sound cruel, sacrificing four Level 1 heroes is preferable to abandoning the quest. If you abandon the Wolves at the Door quest, the game will select one of your heroes at random and kill them.

This could wind up being extremely devastating if the game decides to take away one of your favorite, higher level heroes. Another way to approach the Wolves at the Door quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court is to bring the following four Level 5 heroes: Vestal, Jester, Houndmaster, Man at Arms.

These four will be your best bet when it comes to taking down Brigand Vvulf and beating the Wolves at the Door quest. In your inventory, you’ll want to have a hearty supply of medicinal herbs and bandages available, alongside the four aforementioned shovels. When you’re ready to begin the Wolves at the Door quest, take your selected heroes to the starting area.

Unless you’re impatient to take on Brigand Vvulf, avoid heading up immediately. The reason why you want to delay your encounter with Brigand Vvulf is because there are various rooms that contain Ancestral Trinkets. You’ll want to pick these up if you come across them, so take your time going through each room. After scouring for Ancestral Trinkets, you can proceed on to defeat Brigand Vvulf.

How to Defeat Brigand Vvulf in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court

Using attacks that cause Bleed damage is a great way to defeat Brigand Vvulf in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court.

The most challenging aspect when it comes to beating the Wolves at the Door quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court is undoubtedly the process of defeating its boss, Brigand Vvulf. He’s a tough opponent to fight and boasts an array of devastating abilities. Each round, Brigand Vvulf will use two different actions: summon a Brigand Cutthroat through the Get Them! Ability, or induce stress by using his Warcry ability.

Aside from these two abilities, the biggest danger while fighting Brigand Vvulf is his Barrel O’ Bombs attack. This is because Barrel O’ Bombs allows Brigand Vvulf to toss a bomb at a random hero using the Bombs Away ability. At the start of every round, Brigand Vvulf can engage this action for free. At the end of the round, he can detonate the bomb using his Time’s Up! Ability… also for free.

These bombs deal a hefty amount of damage at 23-45 each, so be wary of this attack while fighting Brigand Vvulf. There are a few Trinkets to make use of while fighting Brigand Vvulf. For your Man at Arms, use Healing and Protection Trinkets. For your Vestal, any Healing Trinket is useful. For your Jester, use Accuracy and Bleed chance Trinkets, and for your Houndmaster, Accuracy and Bleed damage Trinkets.

With your Man at Arms, try and use Defender when Brigand Vvulf tosses a bomb. If the bomb lands at the feet of your Man at Arms, use Retribution. Furthermore, use Houndmaster and Jester to inflict Bleed damage on Brigand Vvulf throughout the fight. Meanwhile, avoid targeting Barrel O’ Bombs because it has Riposte, and if you destroy it, Brigand Vvulf will summon another one.

Use the fight to focus solely on Brigand Vvulf rather than his Brigand Cutthroats or Barrel O’ Bombs. Brigand Vvulf can summon both of these again with ease should you defeat them, so you’re essentially wasting your time. The best bet to defeat Brigand Vvulf in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court is to inflict Bleed damage on him.

After you defeat Brigand Vvulf, head down into the treasure room and use your four shovels to grab yourself some treasure. While the Wolves at the Door quest is one of the harder ones to beat in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court, all it requires is a little planning and practice.

By reading through this guide, you should now know how to beat the Wolves at the Door quest in Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court.
