Monster Hunter: World Beta Requirements

Below you'll find the list of requirements needed to participate in the Monster Hunter: World beta.

To participate in the upcoming beta for Monster Hunter: World, you’ll need to own a PlayStation 4 and be a current PS Plus Member. There are no location restrictions. Not a PS Plus Member? You can sign up for a free 14-day PS Plus trial here, or simply purchase a subscription outright.

You’ll need a stable internet connection to play the beta, as Monster Hunter: World requires you to always be online, even when playing the game’s single-player campaign. With the above requirements met, you’ll be able to download the Monster Hunter: World beta ahead of time on Friday, December 8th.

The file size is 5.1GB, so be sure you have enough space available before you begin downloading the Monster Hunter: World beta. You won’t be able to play until the official start date of December 9th at 5 p.m. (UTC). The Monster Hunter: World beta will be available from that date up until Tuesday, December 12th at 4:59 p.m. (UTC).

Note that data from your time in the Monster Hunter: World beta including your character’s name, appearance, equipment, and other settings will NOT be saved once the beta concludes on December 12th at 4:59 p.m. (UTC). However, according to the Monster Hunter: World beta website, your quest completion data will be saved to the server.

What is Included in the Monster Hunter: World Beta?

It’s important to know what is included in the Monster Hunter: World beta if you plan to participate. Especially considering the beta is limited to December 9th at 5 p.m. (UTC) until December 12th at 4:59 p.m. (UTC). The Monster Hunter: World beta includes both single-player and multiplayer aspects.

For single-player, the Monster Hunter: World beta offers the ability to test out three different quests. These quests include:

  • “Great Devourer, Great Jagras”
  • Great Jagras Hunt
  • Locale: Ancient Forest
  • “Wildspire Rampage”
  • Barroth Hunt
  • Locale: Wildspire Waste
  • “The Ancient Forest Menace”
  • Anjanath Hunt
  • Locale: Ancient Forest

In addition, participants in the Monster Hunter: World beta will be able to test out character creation and naming. This includes choosing from six different character presets for both male and female hunters, and six different presets for your Palico. Note that the retail release of Monster Hunter: World will have much deeper character customization features.

Another feature Monster Hunter: World beta participants will have access to is a Training Area where they can test out any of the game’s 14 different weapon types in a private training space. Additionally, voice and text chat features will be available. Arguably the main draw of the Monster Hunter: World beta is the ability to demo the game’s multiplayer.

You’ll be able to set a language filter during quest creation, which will then match you only with players who speak the same language as you. Note that certain online features will be unavailable in the Monster Hunter: World beta including the ability to join quests midway, Guild Cards, removing other players from a quest, and friend invites. These features will be available in the full retail release of Monster Hunter: World.
