Capcom is hyping up the release of their latest title, Monster Hunter: World, in a rather unique fashion by giving UK residents the chance to earn £50,000 ($70k in USD) by finding evidence of real-life monsters. Laura Skelly, Senior PR Manager for Capcom, elaborated on the details of the monster hunt, stating:
“When planning the upcoming launch of Monster Hunter: World, we couldn’t help but keep coming back to the real-life monsters we’re all heard stories about since we were kids. Speaking to the world’s leading real-live monster hunter, Jon Downes, we were inspired to re-open investigations into a select list of top 10 beasts, setting a huge bounty to really encourage people to get back out hunting for evidence.:
"Much like in the new Monster Hunter: World game, we thought it was only right that the scale of the reward fit the task at hand.”
Aside from consulting Jon Downes, the Cryptozoologist will be the one providing skillful examination of any submitted evidence once the submission period has come to a close.
“There are stories of monsters from around the world, and while some may be flights of fancy, not every one of these monsters can be made up,” Downes explained. “It’s one of life’s great mysteries, and similar to Monster Hunter: World, I’ve spent the majority of my life traveling across the globe to hunt for evidence of these creatures.”
If you’re interested in hunting for monsters, and potentially earning a big payout in the process, Capcom’s monster hunt is set to last from January 30th until June 30th. This gives you five full months to scrounge up evidence for one of the ten qualifying beasts. These beasts include:
- Bigfoot
- Loch Ness Monster
- Mongolian Death Worm
- Mermaid
- Earth Hound
- Yeti
- Chupacabra
- Flying Snake of Namibia
- Yowie
- Cornish Owlman
