Star Trek Bridge Crew gets Next Generation DLC soon

Ubisoft makes it so.

Star Trek fans! Sit down and make yourself a nice cup of tea, Earl Grey, hot. There's good news: The Next Generation is coming to multiplayer VR game Star Trek: Bridge Crew.

Due to drop for PlayStation VR on May 22, the expansion does a lot more than just slap a 1701-D skin on the Enterprise bridge. For one thing, the old Engineering role has gone and will be replaced by Operations. Players in this role must constantly assess the situation and assign NPC crew members to different locations around the ship to deal with problems. There is, sadly, no option to play as Counsellor Troi and just hang around encouraging people to talk about their feelings.

Considerably more exciting than the chance to head up your own deep space HR department is the inclusion of new alien enemies. Yes, the Romulans are coming to the game and, as befits the Next Generation timeline, the Borg are coming too. The Borg will feature in a new roguelike Resistance mode, in which you'll have to explore the galaxy looking for anti-Borg technology. Meanwhile, a gigantic Borg cube is on your tail so you'll need to keep moving and make smart decisions quickly in order to survive.

You can read more, including comments from the designers about how they want to "scare you", over at the PlayStation Blog. The update will also be coming to PC VR systems on July 21.

And with that, we leave you to contemplate the wisdom of attempting the Ryker Chair Mount while wearing a VR headset. There's a high chance of failure and serious groin damage but, come on, you're going to try anyway.
