Epic Games bringing back Fortnite's Solo Showdown

The competitive mode officially returns under a new name.

Today, Epic Games revealed plans to bring Fortnite’s Solo Showdown mode back under a new name, Blitz Showdown. The limited-time mode will reportedly borrow rules from Blitz mode, and will alter the Showdown style gameplay to include more weapons and loot along with quicker material-gathering.

Storms and circles will see changes in Blitz Showdown, with players being able to track where the zone will begin. Storms will now move faster and deal more damage than other modes, which balances the ability to track them.

For those who enjoyed Solo Showdown, Epic is fixing how ranking and scoring works in Blitz Showdown. With Blitz Showdown, the amount of time it takes to rank has been cut. Now, players will only need to complete 25 matches of Blitz Showdown to rank rather than 50. Players will also be divided by server region, with the top 100 players of each region earning V-Bucks as a prize.

Furthermore, the scoring system now awards three points per kill along with the 100 points to the winner, 94 points to second place, 91 to third, and so on. The addition of kill points will likely see players prioritizing offensive strategy over defensive. You can try your hand at Blitz Showdown now, with the mode remaining live until Monday, June 4 at 10 a.m. (EST). Want to go over the rules before hopping into a match?
