Gears of War 2 - Centaur
The Gears of War series are more commonly known for their cover-based shooter mechanics and the screaming of the chainsaw as you cut your way through aliens. But in the second Gears of War game, there is one stage where you get to hop behind the wheel of a tank and blast away at the aforementioned aliens.
Delta squad is tasked with making their way through enemy territory, but thankfully they have the Centaur tank to help out. This tank is odd in that it lacks the usual tracks seen in other tanks on this list. It instead utilizes giant tyres in a “monster truck” fashion.
The main cannon on the Centaur boasts a six-shell system, with the option of increasing the damage output through active-reloading. The downside is obviously the lack of backup weapons like a machine gun. However, the Centaur is one of the more agile tanks on this list, as it comes with its own boost system to help you speed around the levels.
While you don’t usually think of tanks when you hear Gears of War, the Centaur offers a nice change of pace from the usual cover-fire.
