The Halo games might be best known for their first-person shooting, intergalactic warfare, and deep lore, but one of the most brutal and powerful vehicles in Halo: Combat Evolved was the Scorpion tank.

Only available during the fifth mission, Assault on the Control Room, the Scorpion tank was the highlight of the open-area level full of enemy vehicles. It boasted a long range cannon and a machine gun for when the main weaponry was reloading.

What was so interesting about the Scorpion was its model. The tracks and suspension weren’t attached directly to the side of the chassis, they were fin-like with each segment moving freely. It would appear that Bungie has had a long history of designing peculiar looking tanks.

The Scorpion tank stuck around for every Halo game and became an icon of the series, and for a drivable tank in a first-person shooter, it handled surprisingly well.

It’s a special moment in a game when you get to use a tank, you become this unstoppable killing machine with various types of cannons. And while we love the realism of World of Tanks, sometimes we want to get behind the wheel of a tank that floats above the ground! What games had tanks that you thoroughly enjoyed using? Are there any major ones we missed in our list? Let us know in the comments!
