Tank Gawd It's Friday - New Year's Tankolutions

What's your New Year's Tankolution?

Welcome to Tank Gawd It’s Friday, a weekly series where we pose a question to ourselves and to the community regarding World of Tanks or another gaming related topic. Each of us here at Tank War Room will answer the question, before throwing it over to our readers to answer as well. Our goal is to reach out and start a conversation, so we hope you will join the discussion by answering this week’s question in the comments below.

Seeing as how New Year's Eve is tomorrow, we figured it would make sense to talk about how we each plan to improve our World of Tanks career in the coming year. Thus, today's Tank Gawd It's Friday question is:

What is your New Year's "Tankolution"?

Sam Chandler:

As this year comes to an end, and as I’m faced with the New Year, I think it’s definitely a good idea to think of a New Year’s Tankolution. This past year, my experience and skill with World of Tanks has steadily grown from that of a tomato to an orange. I think I would like to improve my WN8 standing and learn more about the game.

We’ve discussed a few times what WN8 means, how to improve at World of Tanks, and how to improve your WN8, and I think it’s going to be my Tankolution to really push myself to improve all of these things. The game is so rich in mechanics that it will no doubt take me a while to fully grasp each concept.

For the New Year, I’m going to improve my WN8. While it’s a general goal, there are sub-goals within that such as learning more about the game, creating consistency, learning strategies, etc. It should be a good year.

Bill Lavoy:

My New Year’s Tankolution is to become more competitive at higher tiers, and to learn some of the more detailed mechanics in the game. The two go hand-in-hand, so tackling both shouldn’t be an issue.

So far in my World of Tanks career, I’ve focused on understanding basic mechanics like how to use side-scraping, how angling works, and how to use tracking in World of Tanks. The latter is by far my favorite, as I find that tracking higher tier tanks when I’m in a match is an effective way to stay relevant.

Through interacting with our readers and viewers during our Twitch live streams, I’ve come to realize that these are very basic concepts that need to be learned and mastered on lower tiers. Now that I’m getting a handle on those, it’s time to start focusing on the finer points of strategy and get into the finer details of each map, tank type, and specific tank. Wish me luck.

My New Year’s Tankolution is to be more patient. As I work my way up the tiers, I’ve noticed that my awareness and map knowledge has been improving. I credit this to taking a more cautious, calculated approach to battle, which seems to be working. To supplement this, I hope to improve my spotting capabilities so that I can still effectively aid my teammates even when it means I don’t get as many kills.

I simply wish to get better at World of Tanks overall, mainly because I want to see my growth as a player pay off, but also because I want to prevent our Twitch chat from having to frantically ping their screens whenever I go the wrong direction (just kidding). World of Tanks has a fairly steep learning curve, but I hope to reach the ridge of that curve and hull down sometime in the new year.

Alright everyone, now it’s your turn to answer the question. What’s your New Year’s Tankolution? Maybe you want to hone your skills as a sniper, or perhaps you wish to get better at using SPGs. Join the discussion by leaving a comment!
