Nintendo Switch Release Date Announced
After much anticipation, the release date for the Nintendo Switch was finally announced today during the Treehouse Live Nintendo Switch Presentation in Tokyo, along with its retail price. The event also gave Nintendo fans a closer look at some of the upcoming games expected for the Switch, which include Zelda, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and various other titles.
The Nintendo Switch is set to be released on March 3rd, 2017, and will cost $299.99. Nintendo had previously confirmed that their newest console would launch in March, but we had yet to hear details on the exact date until today’s presentation. We also learned that the Nintendo Switch will have a paid online service, but will no longer be region locked like its predecessors.
If you’re looking to pre-order the Nintendo Switch, there’s not a whole lot of options available to those living outside of New York. The Nintendo Store in New York City will begin accepting pre-orders for a limited quantity of Nintendo Switch consoles starting at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, January 13th. Hopefully a ‘limited quantity’ still consists of more units than the sparse number of NES Classic consoles that were available last month.
We now know a number of games coming to the Nintendo Switch as well. These games include Nintendo favorites such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2, as well as several other titles like Rime and Pokémon Stars. If Nintendo’s list of third-party partnerships is any indication, we should expect to see an even more impressive lineup after the launch of the Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch was first announced with a reveal trailer back in October 2016, but we only knew precious little about the upcoming console until today. If you missed the Nintendo Treehouse Live stream and want to recap the Nintendo Switch details that were revealed, you should be able to re-watch the archived event coverage on both Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.Back To Top
