Best War Movies of All Time

Here's our picks for the best war movies, ever.

The Hurt Locker

The Hurt Locker (2008)

The Hurt Locker depicts the lasting psychological effects that war can have, and how soldiers can react differently to those effects. In the film, we follow a bomb squad led by a veteran who tends to take a reckless approach to each task.

The cast of top-notch actors is led by Jeremy Renner, who portrays the squad leader William James. If you’re looking for a war film that depicts a modern war experience, then be sure to add this Oscar-winning film to your movie queue.

Kelly’s Heroes

Thanks to suggestions from our TGIF post, we had to include Kelly’s Heroes to our list of best war movies of all time. Taking a more lighthearted approach to the war film genre, Kelly’s Heroes is a military comedy that follows a handful of soldiers as they sneak into enemy territory in an attempt to retrieve a rumored stash of gold.

Clint Eastwood takes the lead role as Kelly, a former Lieutenant who organizes the small group of soldiers to go on this secret mission. The movie takes a jab at the senseless nature of the Vietnam war, despite not taking place during that time. This war movie features a decent blend of action and humor, perfect for those looking for an entertaining war flick.
