7 Video Game Soundtracks Worth Buying

From the fields of Cyrodiil to the edges of the Milky Way, these soundtracks will scare your pants off, set your pulse racing, and even help you relax.

Destiny

Of the numerous game genres out there, science fiction often contains the best game soundtracks of all time. As such, this list would be incomplete if we left out Bungie’s latest success story—Destiny. Playing as Guardians fighting back against the Darkness, Destiny flings players across the galaxy and tasks them with destroying gods and deities in an attempt to save Earth.

While trekking across the wasteland of Earth or scooting around the sandy surface of Mars, there's a constant undertone of adventure and mystery that surrounds your discovery of a world forgotten by time. The entire experience is heightened through the game's musical composition which includes orchestral epics, electronic rock, and even some bass-thumping techno.

Standing at the mouth of a pitch-black chasm surrounded by screaming, skittering alien creatures is an intense moment which becomes almost too much to handle thanks to the deeply disturbing music playing in the background.

These terrifying moments are then contrasted by the exultation of standing on the shores of Venus as Destiny's soaring music emphasizes why this world full of secrets needs to be saved. Overall, Marty O'Donnell managed to capture Bungie's vision perfectly with his mixed bag of beautifully composed music, one which sets the bar extremely high for future sci-fi games.
