Mass Effect: Andromeda - How to Kill Architects

How to kill the giant Architect enemies in Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The Architect fights are Mass Effect: Andromeda’s new and epic boss battles, with each one being a unique challenge for players. However, in order to complete all of the game's missions and unlock all Achievements and Trophies, you will need to know how to kill the Architects.

With four Architect fights spread out over four different planets, you will have ample opportunity to hone your Architect killing skills - just be sure to you know where to find all the Architects.

How to Kill Architects

Architect's are Mass Effect: Andromeda's big new boss battles, and they're extremely difficult to kill, so come prepared!

Architects in Mass Effect: Andromeda are giant, three-legged Remnants that dish out vast amounts of damage using an array of attacks, and killing one, while relatively straightforward, is a challenging task.

To kill an Architect you must first destroy its head conduit, which is locked behind a protective shielding. The head’s shielding drops, exposing the head conduit, when you bring one of the Architect’s legs down to 50% health. Once the head opens, you will be able to attack its glowing core, which counts as a weak point.

After you’ve dealt 25% damage to the core, the Architect will resume its head shielding and reposition itself to another location on the battlefield.

There are a few things to keep in mind when killing an Architect in Mass Effect: Andromeda. First, if you fail to either bring an Architect’s leg’s health down to 50% or destroy a leg within 30 seconds of a phase beginning, you will incur a penalty in the form of a Remnant wave.

Secondly, destroying a leg will cause the Architect to reposition, forcing you to change your attack strategy. When the Architect repositions, it will release an EMP blast that will destroy all Remnants, friendly or otherwise.

Finally, each time a new phase begins during the Architect fight, any knocked-out allies will be immediately revived.

Destroying an Architect’s Legs

As mentioned above, to kill an Architect you must destroy its head and to do that, you need to deal damage and eventually destroy its legs.

Due to the 30-second penalty timer, you will want to deal as much damage as possible to a leg in order to bring it down to 50% health or to kill it. Using incendiary ammo is the best option, as it deals the most damage to the Architect. You can supplement this damage by using Sticky Omni Grenades to quickly take a leg down.

Destroying an Architect’s Head

The Architect’s head will become vulnerable once a leg reaches 50% health and when the final leg is destroyed. Due to the small area, the best means of destroying the Architect’s head is to use a Sniper rifle with as many weak point damage boosts you can muster.

Be careful, when the Architect’s head is vulnerable, it will enter a rage mode where it will continually use its attacks to try and kill you. Stay behind cover and take shots when it’s safe.

Architect Attack Moves

The Architects in Mass Effect: Andromeda all have a variety of attacks that deal huge amounts of damage. These attacks are fairly easy to read, just don’t let them catch you out in the open. If you see the Architect winding up for one of the moves, get to cover and wait for it to be over.

Energy Blast

The Architect’s Energy Blast attack fires an electrical charge at you that, when it hits the ground, leaves an area-of-effect that will constantly damage you. If it lands near you when you’re behind cover, you will need to relocate.

Tentacle Lasers

The Tentacle Laser attack is the most powerful attack the Architect will fire at you, so be careful if you see it beginning this move. The attack will come from the tentacles under the Architect’s head, luckily you can hear this attack charging up. Your best bet is to get behind cover or move unpredictably so the Architect can’t hit you.

Grenade Field

Grenade Field is exactly what it sounds like. The Architect will shoot several grenades your way which first deal damage on impact, then again on detonation. Pay attention to your HUD as it will inform you where these grenades land.

Electrical Cage

Finally, the Electrical Cage is the Architect’s final move. This creates an impenetrable barrier around the Architect’s legs, preventing you from getting in too close.

Fighting Architects can be time-consuming and challenging if you’re underprepared, so it’s a good idea to save fighting the Architects until you have learned how to level up and have unlocked the best weapons. Once you've killed the Architects, make sure you've romanced all the characters in the game! If you read this guide, you should now know how to kill Architects in Mass Effect: Andromeda.
