Mass Effect: Andromeda - Kill the AI or Save the AI?

The Uncovering the Past quest takes you to the snowy wasteland of Voeld, a planet where you can also find one of four Architects. For this Secondary Ops mission, you will venture into a cave and find an AI that sounds rather spooky and offers foreboding statements.

How to Complete Uncovering the Past

The Uncovering the Past mission is only available after you have completed the mission, Remove the Heart. With the Ja Niihk’s shields down, you will be able to access the Kett base. You will need to follow the trail of heat lamps to keep your warmth high. The lamps will lead you to the entrance of a cave.

Once you enter the cave, prepare to fight numerous Kett while saving Angara prisoners. You will come across an Angara hiding near some cages. Talk to him repeatedly and he will reveal that something is hidden behind an ice wall. Use the scanning tool to set an explosive on the wall, destroying it.

Enter the newly formed path and you will come across the AI who will begin to attack an Angara. This is where you will be tasked with deciding whether to kill the AI or save the AI.

What Happens if You Kill the AI

If you kill the AI in Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Uncovering the Past mission, the Angara will thank you. Jaal will be saddened by the loss of a potentially huge discovery and SAM will confirm that there is nothing left to salvage.

What Happens if You Save the AI

If you choose to save the AI in the Uncovering the Past mission, the AI will kill the Angara then plead to be taken back to the Nexus. At this point you will be given another two options: keep the AI or give it to the Angara.

What Happens if You Keep the AI

If you choose to keep the AI you found during the Uncovering the Past mission, you will take it back to the Nexus and it will be with SAM. Sometimes, if you visit SAM, you can hear the AI and SAM talking.

What Happens if You Give the AI to the Angara

Giving the AI to the Angara allows them to use its abilities to help you in the final mission.

The best option for the Uncovering the Past mission in Mass Effect: Andromeda is to save the AI. From there, either option could lead to different effects in the next Mass Effect game. Giving the AI to the Nexus could create a situation in the future where it helps SAM while giving it to the Angara will directly affect the final mission.
