Yooka-Laylee - How to Unlock All Tonics

How to unlock all the Tonics and what they do in Yooka-Laylee.

This guide will show you how to unlock all the Tonics in Yooka-Laylee. There are 16 different Tonics that can be unlocked and equipped via the character, Vendie. Each Tonic has a different effect that will change the game in some way. Some Tonics will help you find items while others will boost how fast your power regenerates!

Wellard

The Wellard Tonic gives you one bonus Butterfly health slot. This can be helpful when you first start the game and haven’t yet found all the Butterfly Boosters that increase your health. To unlock this Tonic, you must collect 5 Pagies.

Super Slam

Super Slam gives you a more powerful Buddy Slam. To unlock this Tonic, you need to stun 30 enemies using Sonar Shot.

Livewire

Livewire makes your power meter regenerate faster, which is excellent especially if you’ve collected all Power Extenders and have a lot of power bar to regenerate! To unlock this Tonic in Yooka-Laylee, you must beat Rextro’s high score on three of his arcade machines.

Hoarder

The Hoarder Tonic in Yooka-Laylee enables you to collect Quills using Yooka’s Lizard Lash skill. This is handy if there are Quills slightly out of reach, but otherwise it’s not useful. To unlock it, collect 300 Quills.

Hunter

The Hunter Tonic is the best Tonic for anyone searching for all the collectible items, such as the Power Extender, Butterfly Boosters, or the Pirate Treasures as it helps you sense when rare items are nearby. The controller will vibrate and the item will call out to you when an item is near you. To unlock it, you need to find two Butterfly Boosters or Power Extenders.

Peekaboo

Peekaboo lets Yooka’s invisibility move, Camo Cloak, last longer. To unlock this Tonic from Vendi, you must defeat 10 INEPT robot enemies.

Helium

The Helium Tonic in Yooka-Laylee changes all the voices in the game to sound high-pitched. To unlock this Tonic, you must finish the Yooka-Laylee story.

64-Bit

While it’s not currently available in the game, the 64-Bit Tonic changes the game to look like it would on a Nintendo 64.

Baller

Baller makes Reptile Roll use less power, meaning you can travel using the Roll for longer. To unlock the Baller Tonic, you must defeat 100 enemies.

Bruiser

The Bruiser Tonic gives you extra health when you eat a butterfly. To unlock this Tonic, you need to collect 10 of the 20 Pagies that can be found around Hivory Towers. Be sure to check out our guide on how to unlock the Hivory Tower Pagies.

Fallproof

Fallproof makes it so you take no damage when falling from great heights, a useful Tonic if you plan to climb to the top of the higher buildings, as it gives you a fast way down! To unlock the Fallproof Tonic, you need to collect 10 Ghost Writers.

Salmon

The Salmon Tonic in Yooka-Laylee lets you hold your breath for longer underwater. This is a useful Tonic to use if you haven’t yet unlocked the Bubble Walk skill. To unlock Salmon, defeat 10 underwater enemies. The easiest way to do this is in the Moodymaze Marsh world once you give the Mollycool to Dr Puzz.

Loaded

The Loaded Tonic lets you hold more ammo from berry bushes, which means your ability lasts longer. To unlock Loaded, you must collect 15 Ghost Writers. Be sure to check out our guide on where to find all Ghost Writers.

Butterthree

Butterthree is a Tonic that massively reduces your health for a tough challenge. This limits your health, regardless of how many Butterfly Boosters you’ve found, to only three butterflies. To unlock this challenging Tonic, you must finish the Yooka-Laylee story.

Athlete

The Athlete Tonic is one of the best Tonics in Yooka-Laylee as it increases the amount of power you have, making your power meter bigger! This allows you to use more abilities or use abilities (like Reptile Roll or Camo Cloak) for much longer! To unlock Athlete, you need to complete the Yooka-Laylee story.

Pants

The final Tonic you can collect in Yooka-Laylee is called Pants. To unlock this Tonic you must collect every Pagie in the game. This Tonic adds pants to Yooka so he’s no longer naked! Be sure to check out our extensive guide for each Pagie in the game – it’ll take a bit of work, but it’s worth it.

The Tonics are an fun addition to the game, with each offering a slight change on gameplay! Collecting 15 Tonics also unlocks an Achievement or Trophy, so it’s worth pursuing. If you read this guide, you should now know how to unlock all the Tonics in Yooka-Laylee.
