What Soldiers Ate During War

A look at some of the rations eaten by soldiers throughout history and today.

US Army WW2 Field Ration C B-Unit

In recent years, the storage of rations has shifted from cans and tins into plastics. This no doubt helps to preserve the food inside, but also vastly reduces the weight a soldier must carry. In the video above, Steve opens and taste tests one of the oldest rations available.

This can of food contains biscuits, confectionary, and beverages (a small ration perfect for a quick pick-me-up). Were it tea instead of coffee, this particular ration would be perfect as a Consumable in World of Tanks for the British. Interestingly, the Domino sugar cube is seen throughout many of the rations produced in the US.
