PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Will Eventually Get Weapon Skins and Loot Boxes

Such additions won’t be made until the game leaves Steam Early Access.

At this point, it seems safe to say that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has proven to be a pretty big hit, and its popularity will only continue to rise as it receives new updates and features. One such feature which the game’s developer, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, already plans to add is a system of loot boxes through which players can find and trade weapon skins.

However, Greene says he won’t add loot boxes into the game until he feels that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a finished product. Speaking with Gamasutra, Greene talked about how he likes seeing the weapon skin economies that pop up in games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive where players can trade, buy, and sell the skins they collect.

Although, he also made it clear that he wants to be sure that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is in a stable, finished state before he introduces such a major new feature.

As such, players shouldn’t expect to see loot boxes and weapon skins until PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds officially leaves Steam Early Access. Greene also made it clear that he doesn’t approve of weapon skin gambling, so fans shouldn’t be worried about the seedier elements of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s weapon skin economy finding its way into Battlegrounds.

If you haven’t given PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds a try yet and you’re interested in doing so, make sure you check to see if your PC meets the minimum system requirements first.
