Halo: Combat Evolved – A Legendary Embrace
During the age of the original Xbox (before there were things like Achievements and Trophies to earn), developer Bungie wanted to find a way to properly honor those dedicated few who managed to beat the original Halo: Combat Evolved on its most challenging difficulty level, Legendary. What the studio came up with was both heartfelt and hilariously bizarre.
If a player finished the game on Legendary, they’d be treated to a bonus endgame cinematic in which one of their NPC allies, Sergeant Johnson, could be seen wrestling for control of an assault rifle with a Covenant Elite.
However, once they both realized they’d be caught in an impending explosion, the two suddenly decided it’s better to be a lover than a fighter and embraced in a hug as the explosion swept over them. Johnson’s infamous line of “This is it baby, hold me…” is likely one that longtime Halo fans will never forget.
