Best USSR Tank Lines in World of Tanks

Picking a new tank line in World of Tanks can be tricky, so here are some of the best tank lines the USSR has to offer!

USSR Heavy Tank Line

The iconic IS-7 is a cornerstone of the USSR tank lines, and an excellent heavy tank for any type of tanker.

The USSR tech tree is primarily known for its Heavy tanks, many of which are considered some of the best Heavy tanks for noobs in World of Tanks. Due to their ease of use, the USSR Heavy tank line is one of the best in World of Tanks.

There are two Heavy tank lines in the USSR tree that are worth venturing down, one ends with the IS-7, while the other finishes with the IS-4. Both are great choices, but if we had to pick one over the other, the IS-7 line would be the way to go. This is because the IS-7 offers greater speeds, better accuracy, and higher alpha damage than the IS-4.

Before you reach the Tier 10 Heavy tanks, you’ll be starting at Tier 5 with the KV-1, an excellent tank for players just beginning to learn the ropes. With ground front and side armor, the KV-1—once a player learns how to angle correctly—can bounce numerous shots and survive a lot of punishment. Plus, it has an array of decent guns that offer a variety of playstyle options.

Stepping up to Tier 8 is the IS-3, one of the highest points when venturing down the USSR Heavy tank line. Tier 8 Premium tanks offer the best choice when farming credits in World of Tanks, but as a stock variant, the IS-3 is just as formidable in combat thanks to its extremely tough frontal turret armor. This armor allows it to take a hull down position and fire on enemies with its high alpha damage top gun. Even if you have to spend a long time in the IS-3 in order to grind credits for Tiers 9 and 10, you’re going to enjoy every match.
