5 Things Call of Duty Does Better Than Battlefield

As great as Battlefield is, there are some areas in which it can be lacking.

Female Multiplayer Characters

Another area in which the Battlefield series seems to be forever stuck in the past is gender equality in multiplayer. To this day, not one Battlefield game has ever had playable female multiplayer avatars, not even in developer Visceral Games’ cops and criminals entry Battlefield Hardline.

Look at any other major shooter game franchise, be it Halo, Gears of War, Titanfall, and even Call of Duty, and you’ll find multiplayer characters that encompass both genders. This isn’t the case when it comes to the Battlefield franchise. Now, I don’t mean to imply that I think DICE has some sort of sexist agenda when it comes to playable multiplayer avatars. Heck, even I will admit that not having playable female characters in Battlefield 1’s more historic setting is probably more historically accurate.

However, no matter DICE’s intentions, the lack of gender diversity in Battlefield’s multiplayer reflects poorly on DICE, and it’s something which I hope the studio corrects sooner rather than later.

Update: Well, it looks like DICE is finally fixing this issue in the upcooming In The Name of the Tsar expansion for Battlefield 1, an expansion which will add in playable female scouts for the new Russian Army faction.
