PS5 Games We Could See in 2018

Looks like 2018 could be the biggest year in gaming history.

God of War 4

God of War 4 launching around the time of the PS5 is starting to make more sense by the day, especially given that there’s a huge poster advertising God of War for next week’s E3 2017 event. It also doesn’t hurt that Geoff Keighley, Producer and Creator of the E3 Coliseum, tweeted that there would be a one-hour God of War event at the show. That’s a lot of God of War, and Sony wouldn’t be doing that if the game was still two or three years off.

It’s possible that we’re getting God of War 4 in 2017, based on the chatter that’s currently picking up and the lack of a blockbuster PS4 exclusives in Q4 2017. However, it seems like that might be a bit of a rush job. To go from God of War 4 being announced at E3 2016 to releasing in Q4 2017 is a quick turnaround. It would make more sense that we get a God of War 4 release date at E3 2017, and that it lines up with the PS5 release date predicted by Damian Thong. However, neither would surprise or disappoint me.

Whether in Q4 2017, or sometime in 2018, it's likely we'll get a God of War release date at E3 2017.

It's important to remember that developing a game on the PS4 would not be the same as the PS5. Therefore, if the PS5 is launching in the second half of 2018, any games that are launching along side it would have to be in development for the PS5 right now. Games like Death Stranding and God of War (along with any other PlayStation exclusives) are more likely to launch with the PS5 than games that are going to release on multiple platforms. It would make sense for Sony to keep their new hardware in the family until it has an official release date. Still, gamers can dream.

What are your thoughts on the five games I’ve made (sketchy) cases for releasing as launch titles for the PS5 in 2018? Do you think the PS5 is even coming in 2018? If so, what games would you add or remove from the list? What about The Last of Us Part II, Detroit: Become Human or Days Gone? All of those are tied to Sony, and it would be silly to think that, if the PS5 comes out in the second half of 2018, none of them would release alongside it.
