Digital Sun Games reveals Moonlighter 2018 development roadmap

New rooms, new bosses, New Game+ and even companions - all for free!

Shopkeeping/Dungeon crawling indie hit Moonlighter has received a development roadmap listing free updates coming to the game this year.

We loved Moonlighter's mix of price-gauging and roguelite exploring, and so, it appears, did everyone else. To celebrate the game's success, 11 Bit Studios and Digital Sun Games have revealed a roadmap for 2018 which shows off a bunch of free updates arriving in the next few months. Digital Sun Games has been coming up with new ideas and listening to fan feedback to improve the game as well as add new content.

"Since Moonlighter's release, the feedback that we have received from fans has been equal parts overwhelming and also amazing!" The press release reads. "Our fans and community have some crazy good ideas and guess what — we have some as well!

"We’ve collected your feedback and we have incorporated as much of it as possible into our development plan."

On the way are new rooms to flesh out the dungeons, a New Game+ feature, familiar companions to join you and help tackle new bosses. Here's Digital Sun Games' explanation of each new feature:

  • More Stock Update — Our first update will add more than 50 new rooms distributed all over the four dungeons making a total of almost 600 room patterns available! It’s also going to improve the look of armors and enchanted items, plus we plan to add some additional help/tutorials to explain different shop upgrades better.
  • Adventure Update — New Game+ lets players start the whole game again with increased difficulty level. This update will also bring brand new Dimensional Weapons and Amulets, powerful equipment based on an unknown and mysterious technology.
  • Companion Update — Feeling lonely in the Dungeons? Worry no more! Choose a companion and bring it with you on the adventure ! Each companion will be a little bit different, offering various skill sets and looks. On top of that we’re going to introduce the Custom Game — a set of options that will allow you to to modify certain game parameters to create diverse experiences.
  • Trouble Update — Put your skills to the test by battling some brand new mini bosses! We’re not going to tell you anything more about them — because we want those enemies to surprise (and brutally defeat... muah ha ha ha) you during your adventures. Yup, we're sadistic like that sometimes. We're also going to add new Item Effects, boosting the game’s variety. This update should arrive sometime around Halloween — so we’re hoping to bring you some spoOOoky stuff, too!

That all sounds like great stuff to us! In other good news, the Official soundtrack for Moonlighter is now available on Spotify and Bandcamp. Honestly we could listen to that shop music all day.

The final bit of info is a reassurance that the Switch version of Moonlighter is on the way and will be arriving this year. There's no release date as of yet but Digital Sun Games promises that an announcement is coming soon.

Make sure to check out all our other Moonlighter content. We have guides for how much to sell items for from each dungeon, as well as how to stop thieves and where to find the rarest items of all.
