How to customize your character in No Man’s Sky

All you need to do to access character customization in No Man’s Sky is head to a space station. Inside you’ll want to look around for a Character Customization Station. There are usually only two main sides you’ll need to explore in a station, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. If you’re already a long way into the base-building side of the game, you’ll also have the option to construct a Character Customization Station in your own bases, making it even easier to change up how you look.

However you’ve accessed one, using the Character Customization Station is as easy as walking up and interacting with it. You’ll immediately have access to the impressive range of options we’ve listed below:

  • Race
  • Head
  • Torso
  • Armour
  • Gloves
  • Legs
  • Boots
  • Backpack

Each category contains a range of choices to pore over, and you can even choose colors and designs to print on top. Play around as much as you want and make something truly unique for yourself! Once you’ve got an arrangement you like, simply hit accept, leave the customization screen and you’ll be all done! Swap your camera to third person mode to really take a look at your fine handy work (but make sure it looks good in first person too).
Now that you know how easy it is, you can pop back to a Character Customization Station in a space station or your base any time you feel like a change of outfit. No Man’s Sky Next has added a huge range of extra new features and content to the game, so why not read some of our other guides? Here’s how to build a Portable Refiner and make the most of those scavenged materials. If you’re looking to upgrade your ship then we also have a guide for how to get a get yourself a freighter for free — who could say no to that?
