Death's Gambit is a gorgeous 2D RPG coming this month

Take your chances...

It's always nice when a promising looking game sneaks up on you, and that's exactly what has happened with Death's Gambit, a beautiful looking Metroidvania RPG that has released its cinematic trailer just two weeks before it goes on sale.

There's no shortage of retro-styled 2D action games that riff on the famously demanding Dark Souls, but Death's Gambit isn't opting for the usual procedurally generated levels and is instead set in a painstakingly designed world known as Siradon, where hulking immortal guardians guard ancient secrets. You'll be playing as a servant of Death, also immortal, and it's up to you to use your resilience to defeat all the guardians and claim your mysterious reward at the end.

You can also ride a horse, which is nice.

Death's Gambit is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC on August 14.
