In Monster Hunter: World, players have been wondering how to get Aetheryte Shards. This is because Aetheryte Shards can be used to craft items like the Drachen Armor.
Right now, the main way to get Aetheryte Shards in Monster Hunter: World is by running through the Behemoth quest line. Of course, you’ll need to first unlock Behemoth by completing a series of steps and assignments.

How to Get Aetheryte Shards in Monster Hunter: World
As noted above, the main way to get Aetheryte Shards in Monster Hunter: World is by fighting Behemoth. To fight Behemoth, you’ll first need to unlock the Behemoth quest line. To unlock Behemoth in Monster Hunter: World, complete the following steps:
- Reach HR 16 or higher
- Talk to Serious Handler in Astera to unlock “Visitor from Another World”
- Complete the Special Assignment “Visitor from Another World” (note that fighting Kulu-Ya-Ku also yields Aetheryte Shards)
- Accept the Special Assignment “The Legendary Beast”
- Accept the Special Assignment “He Taketh It With His Eyes”
- Fight Behemoth
The Wiki for Monster Hunter: World offers a few tips when it comes to fighting Behemoth including the fact that he’s weakest to Dragon, Ice, and Water Elements. Behemoth mainly deals Thunder and Fire Element damage and as such, is resistant to both. Behemoth is also status weak to Paralysis and Sleep. The Behemoth battle is comprised of four different phases. In Phase 1, the battle begins in a cave with two destroyable stalactites.
This is the easiest phase, with players needing to focus on hitting Behemoth with these stalactites (dealing 1.7k damage). In Phase 2, Behemoth will begin dealing attacks such as Thunderbolt and Comet. Be cautious of Behemoth’s AOE attacks moving forward making sure to guard behind cover when Behemoth uses Ecliptic Meteor towards the end of Phase 2. Phase 3 is similar to Phase 2.

Again, note to guard against Behemoth’s Ecliptic Meteor. In Phase 4, Behemoth will flee to the Nergi Nest. Here, you can defeat Behemoth and earn drops including Aetheryte Shards in Monster Hunter: World. Once you’ve collected enough Aetheryte Shards from your encounters with Kulu-Ya-Ku and Behemoth, you should be able to use them to craft the Drachen Armor in Monster Hunter: World.
