Dontnod's Vampyr to get TV adaptation

Fox 21 want a bite of the action.

London-set detective/action-RPG Vampyr is reportedly getting a television series after Fox 21 acquired the license.

AllGamers' own Morgan quite enjoyed Vampyr's break from RPG traditions when we reviewed it back in June, praising its seedy, horror atmosphere and gothic stylings. We're therefore glad to see the intriguing setting make the jump to TV, where it feels a natural fit for a serial drama. Whether the show chooses to follow the WW1-era, morally gray tale of Dr Jonathan Reid, or focuses on an entirely new cast of characters is still unknown, but Dontnod Entertainment seems fully behind the idea either way.

"We believe it is a fantastic premise for a television show," Dontnod CEO Oskar Gulbert said an official statement. "This is a new and exciting way for fans of the game, as well as the uninitiated, to enter and engage with Vampyr's rich, deep story. We cannot wait to see how the talented team at Fox21 will bring out the darkly atmospheric universe of our game into television."

Fox 21 Television Studios are a subsidary of 20th Century Fox and likely best known for shows such as Malcom in the Middle, Homeland and Sons of Anarchy. It's worth noting that they've already snapped up the rights to Dontnod's other series, Life is Strange, which will be getting its own TV show. Production of the Vampyr TV show is being handled by Wonderland Sound & Vision as well as DJ2 Entertainment, the two teams behind the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

If you haven't played Vampyr but the TV conversion has piqued your interest, you can pick up the game on PS4, PC and Xbox One.
