Sony's Fortnite crossplay ban gets another new explanation

Xbox, Switch and PC players aren't going to like it.

New Sony boss Kenichiro Yoshida has offered another explanation for why Fortnite players can share their games across PC, Xbox, Switch and even mobile, but not on PlayStation 4. The reason: PlayStation 4 is best.

"On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play," Yoshida told an audience at Berlin's IFA technology show. "Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that's our belief."

"But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform."

It's an explanation that seems certain to inflame emotions on this issue even more, throwing none-too-subtle shade on rival platforms while denying PS4 players the chance to play with their friends.

The bad news is that if you're a PS4 player hoping for a sign that Sony might relax its restrictions, the forecast seems to be "don't hold your breath".
