Treyarch ups Call of Duty's Blackout player count to 100 as beta ends

Plus what will be tweaked between now and release.

Well, it looks like Call of Duty's entry into the Battle Royale genre has won fans over. Feedback from the now finished Blackout mode beta are generally positive, with many vocal skeptics now enthusiastic converts on social media. In fact, the open beta proved so popular that developer Treyarch extended it by two hours and, crucially, bumped the player count up to 100 for the final stretch.

This is important as 100 is seen as the magic number for this style of game, as set in place by PUBG and Fortnite. Treyarch had been cautious about confirming it could match that lobby size, given how much more intensive Call of Duty's visual and framerate requirements are, but the fact they were confident enough to raise the lobby limit bodes well for the game's full release on October 12.

Of course, there were plenty of other features that became apparent during the beta and Treyarch has also confirmed it's looking into those for an early patch, including more balancing of Tier 2 and 3 armor strength, better audio feedback regarding enemy footsteps, faster item pick-up, as well as some Xbox One specific performance issues.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches on October 12 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
