Leaked Red Dead Redemption 2 map shows familiar locations

Much of the original game's world will be included in the sequel, with a lot more besides.

Players who have got their hands on the Red Dead Redemption 2 German official guide early have given us a leaky look at the game’s full map. The images aren’t totally clear, but a redditor by the name of tomcruise_momshoes has stitched the various pieces of the map together to reveal some familiar landscapes.

Bearing in mind Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the original game, it’s intriguing to see how much of the game world has remained. A lot of the original game’s locations, including Fort Mercer, Armadillo, Tumbleweed, Tall Trees, Blackwater and Macfarlane’s Ranch. It’s going to be fascinating to revisit these areas at a time when the west was a little wilder and not quite settled. The cobbled streets of Blackwater may be freshly paved this time around and the ghost town of Tumbleweed is likely to be a little less spooky. Makes you wonder whether the founders knew it would fall into disrepair when they settled there.

One notable absence from the map is Mexico, which many will see as a good thing. Instead, there’s a huge expanse of new area to the north. It’s hard to tell the scale of the environments, but it looks to be considerably larger than the original game. Which is about what you’d expect almost a decade after Red Dead Redemption’s original launch. We’ll find out for sure when the sequel launches this week. From the looks of it, we’ll be exploring the new frontier for many weeks to come.
