How to get Red Dead Redemption 2's War Horse pre-order bonus

How to saddle up the War Horse after pre-ordering Red Dead Redemption 2.

If you're already out in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, chances are you pre-ordered the game and are entitled to some fanciful loot such as a new steed, here's where to find your War Horse pre-order bonus.

Where to find the War Horse pre-order bonus

First up, make sure you've downloaded the appropriate content item from the PS/Xbox store. You may need to punch in a code, or if you bought digitally it'll be in your owned items waiting to download.

You won't be able to ride your iron-grey Ardennes mount from the start of the game, as you travel through the Grizzly mountains with Dutch and the Van Der Linde gang. Instead you'll need to wait until the start of Chapter 2, it's not too far into the game, just an hour or so as you learn the ropes.

Take Hosea's mission "Exit, Pursued by a Bruised Ego" and you'll be asked to ride into town to help the old man sell his horse. Follow him down into Valentine and you'll head on to Amos, Levi, Blacksmith & Farrier, a horse dealership. After completing the mission critical dialogue, learning how to buy and sell horses, the full range of hot new sports models will be open to you on the showfloor.

Most have hefty price tags (which aren't necessary to pay if you just make sure to keep bonding with your horse to improve its attributes) but a couple are free. One, a black thoroughbred, isn't the horse you're looking for. But the grey Ardennes? That's the War Horse, and that's your pre-order swag. Ride on, cowboy!
