How to mute players in Anthem

Get rid of distractions by learning how to mute people in Anthem.

During your time in Anthem, the question of how to mute other players will undoubtedly crop up. While it can be fun to matchmake with strangers and use mics to communicate and coordinate in real time, you risk running into players who don’t use their mic as intended. To mitigate these types of situations, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the game’s mute options.

To help, we’ve put together a quick guide on how to mute other players in Anthem!

How to Mute Players in Anthem

In Anthem, you have the option to play cooperatively with either friends, or random players via the game’s matchmaking system. Not only can you matchmake with strangers, you also have the ability to communicate with them using mics. More often than not, you’ll find that players you matchmake with either don’t have mics, or have them but don’t use them to talk directly.

For example, one player we were matched with had an open mic broadcasting choppy music clips. Rather than listen to a static-filled playback of their favorite song, we opted to simply mute that player’s mic. There are a few different ways you can go about muting someone in Anthem. The easiest way is to find their avatar in the Launch Bay and hold down either X on Xbox One or Square on PlayStation 4 to bring up player options.

In these options, you’ll spot an “Ignore” tab. By selecting “Ignore” you’ll both mute them and block them from matchmaking with you in the future. Outside of the Launch Bay, you’ll need to open your map using Options on Xbox One or the Touchpad on PlayStation 4. After you’ve opened your map, select Social, then select Squad.

To mute other players, open your map, select the Social tab, then select Squad and select the player you wish to "Ignore" in Anthem.

In the Squad list, locate the username of the player you wish to mute, then tap A on Xbox One or X on PlayStation 4 to “Ignore” that player. To undo this action, you’ll also find the Ignore List in your Social menu. To give a player a second chance, find their username and unmute them through the Ignore List to restore communication.

Finally, there’s even a way to mute people in Free Roam. To do this, simply open your map, select Social, then select the “Session” option. In the Session menu, you’ll be able to view the usernames of all players in your Free Roam session. As long as you know the username of the player you wish to mute, all you need to do is find them in the list, select them, then proceed to “Ignore” them.

Again, you can undo this action by tabbing over to the Ignore List in your Social menu, finding their name, and unmuting them. While muting other players can be a bit of a pain, it’s nice to know the option is available should you need it. Anthem is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
