XIII remake arrives on PS4 in November

The story-driven first-person-shooter with a great art style is being remade for the PlayStation 4.

The fantastic 2003 FPS XIII is being remade. A PlayStation Blog post dropped the news today, along with a teaser trailer, which you can see below. XIII launches on November XIIIth.

From the looks of it, the game is being completely remade from the ground up, as opposed to simply being remastered. Head of Production at Microids, François Coulon, says that the team’s “goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animation. The result will be nothing short of spectacular as we promise to celebrate the amazing work done on the original game.”

The original game was had a spectacular aesthetic with its cel shaded visuals. From the look of the concept art, the cel shading has been toned town for this remake, but the comic book style is still evident. The game is based on a belgian comic of the same name in which the protagonist wakes up on Brighton beach with no memory, a mysterious tattoo and a safe deposit box key.

XIII also had some great multiplayer back in the day, but there’s no word on whether it will be included in the remake. The PlayStation Blog post does mention a “34-level solo campaign”, though. Which seems hefty to us. If the developers can recapture the look and feel of the original game while bringing it up to our modern-day gaming standards, this will be a must-play.
