How long to beat Days Gone?

An overview of how long it'll take you to beat the Days Gone campaign.

With the release of Days Gone in April, many gamers have found themselves wondering how long it’ll take to beat the campaign. While the completion time will vary depending on the individual playing the game, there are estimates and averages out there that offer a better idea as to how long Days Gone will be overall.

To help simplify everything, we’ve put together a quick guide answering how long it will take to beat Days Gone.

Days Gone is a single-player, open-world style game with a sweeping campaign to explore. With the prospect of a vast (and lengthy) game like Days Gone, knowing how long it’ll take you to beat the game can help you make a more informed purchase decision. As noted above, your personal completion time will vary depending on the difficulty setting you select and what you choose to do in the game.

In an interview with Game Informer, SIE Bend Studio creative director John Garvin addressed the average completion time for Days Gone. “The golden-path story is something like 30 hours," Garvin explained. "But, you know, it’s going to take a lot longer than that because things are going to happen to you along the way depending on how careful you are.”

With this information, we can safely estimate a minimum completion time of around 30 hours. Garvin also explained that as an open-world game, players will have a wealth of side quest activities available that are separate from the campaign’s main story path. Comparing Days Gone to other open-world titles released over the last few years, it’s safe to say the game should take players anywhere from 30 to 60 hours to complete.

Again, it’s all about what you choose to do in the game. If you’re someone who wants to complete every single side quest on offer, you’re undoubtedly looking at a higher completion time closer to 60 hours. Alternatively, if you’re someone who wants to breeze through the game as quickly as possible on the lowest difficulty setting available, 30 hours appears to be the bare minimum based on information provided by John Garvin.

Days Gone is scheduled to release on April 26 for PlayStation 4. Be sure to check back, as we’ll be updating this guide with our own completion time experience, along with guides to help you beat the campaign should you run into any roadblocks.
