To throw weapons and items in Mordhau, there are a few things you’ll need to keep in mind. First, not every weapon can be thrown in Mordhau. For example, you won’t be able to throw heavy, two-handed weapons like the Zweihander. Instead, many one-handed weapons can be thrown after you switch over to their alternate mode.

An easy way to check if a weapon can be thrown before jumping into battle is to edit your mercenary’s gear in the Armory. When viewing a weapon you’ve purchased, you can view the “Advanced” options and then check the “Alternate Mode” box to view more of the weapon’s stats. If you see something like “Projectile Speed” you’ll know the weapon is able to be thrown.

Another good indicator is if you tap “R” to switch to your weapon’s alternate mode and this causes your mercenary to throw the weapon rather than change their grip. Trust us, this is always a fun surprise. If your weapon can be thrown by tapping “R” we recommend that you want to wait to press “R” until the enemy is in range in front of you.

Alternatively, if you’re using a throwable item like the Fire Bomb, you can throw it by tapping your Left Mouse Button. To retrieve a weapon after you’ve thrown it, simply walk up to its location on the ground (or in the chest of the enemy you vanquished) and press “E” to interact and pick it up.

Keep in mind that accuracy is also needed when throwing a weapon, and that enemies have the ability to Parry a thrown weapon using their Right Mouse Button and proper timing. To get you started, a few weapons that can be thrown include items like the Smoke Bomb and Fire Bomb, as well as weapons such as the Arming Sword, Falchion, Frying Pan, and Axe.
