How to participate in WoW Classic beta
Following the announcement that World of Warcraft players will be able to play WoW Classic, questions have sprung up regarding how to participate in the closed beta. According to Blizzard, WoW Classic will release on August 27, with beta stress tests beginning May 15 and running until July 19.
Unlike games where you submit your email address for beta consideration, participating in the WoW Classic beta is a bit more complicated. To help clear everything up, we’ve put together a quick guide explaining how you can participate in the WoW Classic beta.
How to Participate in WoW Classic Beta
For gamers looking to participate in the WoW Classic beta ahead of its release on August 27, a few steps will need to be taken to increase your chances of receiving an invitation from Blizzard. As noted above, you can’t sign up for pool invites by submitting your email address to a dedicated beta website like other game betas.
Instead, you’ll need to opt-in to beta invitations either in Warcraft itself or through Battle.net inside your Account Management menu. Your account will also need to qualify and meet Blizzard’s criteria, such as ensuring you have an active subscription and/or active game time on your Battle.net account. Elaborating on this selection process, Blizzard explains:
“To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, we’ll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in. Participants will also need to have an active subscription or active game time on their Battle.net account. While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure you’re in the running to join the test, it doesn’t guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test. We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community.”
Again, you’ll need to opt-in to beta invitations through Warcraft and your Battle.net account, though this won’t guarantee you an invite to the closed beta for WoW Classic. If you are fortunate enough to receive an invite, it will be for one of the open stress test periods, which we’ve listed below.
- Stress Test #1: May 22 through May 23
- Stress Test #2: June 19 through June 20
- Stress Test #3: July 18 through July 19
In the event you’re not selected to participate in the WoW Classic beta, Blizzard has noted that character creation for WoW Classic will begin on August 13 ahead of its August 27 release. With this information in mind, it’s highly likely that an open beta will be made available for more gamers interested in trying out WoW Classic. Stay tuned, as we’ll be updating our guide with future beta invites for WoW Classic.
