Unlike the main routes that take around 22 chapters to complete, the Edelgard route is special in that it’ll only take you 18 chapters to complete in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. To access the Edelgard route, the first thing you’ll need to do is select the Black Eagles house. If you’ve already selected another house such as the Blue Lions or Golden Deer, we recommend creating a separate save file and selecting the Black Eagles house in order to view the Edelgard route.

With the Black Eagles selected, make your way through the game as normal and try to form a strong relationship bond with Edelgard. Eventually, you’ll reach one of the game’s critical chapters. This is where you need to make specific choices in order to unlock the Edelgard route.

Warning: The next section of this guide contains major spoilers for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Proceed with caution!

The critical chapter you’ll need to keep an eye out for is the one where Rhea announces that you and your students will enter the Holy Tomb. Before you do this, be sure to use a free exploration day and seek out Edelgard at the Monastery. When you speak with Edelgard, she’ll ask if you’d be willing to go home with her to the Adrestian Empire.

The correct response to this question to unlock the Edelgard route is to say yes. With this key dialogue taken care of, proceed through the game up to the Holy Tomb. At the end of this mission, you’ll be given another key choice asking you whether you want to kill or protect Edelgard. The correct choice to unlock the Edelgard route is to protect Edelgard.

In doing so, you’ll have successfully unlocked the Edelgard end route for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. On the flip side, there’s another route that opens up if you fail to form a strong relationship bond with Edelgard. You’ll still need to select the Black Eagles as your house, but you can ignore Edelgard up until the Holy Tomb mission.

Your response to the Adrestian Empire question doesn’t necessarily matter here. If you choose to kill Edelgard after the Holy Tomb mission, you’ll unlock a separate fourth end route for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. If we had to recommend a route, we feel the Edelgard route is a little bit softer than the fourth route. However, the choice is entirely up to you!
