The only way to get a Dark Seal in Fire Emblem: Three Houses is to defeat an enemy known as the Death Knight. The first time you’ll run into this sinister fellow is in Part 1 while protecting the Holy Mausoleum during the Rite of Rebirth.

At this stage in the game he’ll be more than a match of any of your students, likely killing anyone who attacks him in a single hit. You can’t take him down from range either as one of his talents allows him to counter-attack from anywhere. Most players would do well to avoid him altogether in this first encounter. With smart use of Battallions though, it is possible to defeat the Death Knight this early and earn yourself a Dark Seal. You can also use a thief class to steal the item from the Dark Knight, but be perpared to either finish the mission or move your unit out of harms way after if you don't want to lose them.

Don’t worry if you didn’t score yourself a Dark Seal here, as the Death Knight is actually a recurring enemy. You’ll face him many more times throughout Fire Emblem: Three Houses, each time offering the chance to get a Dark Seal. He’s a terrifying and tough enemy, but if you want to become a Dark Mage or Dark Bishop then you’ll need to defeat him and earn a Dark Seal.
