Concept art of the rumored Warner Bros. Montreal Batman game to star Damian Wayne, Project Sabbath, has appeared online seemingly confirming fears that it had eventually been cancelled.
The art shows the game's project name next to a set of character sheets and environment concepts suggesting a Gotham city where Wayne Enterprises is in disrepair, as well as an overall grittier atmosphere than its predecessor Arkham Knight.
Batman's voice actor for every game in Rocksteady's Arkham series, Kevin Conroy, said that there were no future Arkham projects planned at a convention back in 2017, suggesting that the project was dead already by that point.
At the WizardWorld convention in Nashville during September 2017, the voice of Batman confirmed that there were no plans for any more sequels, telling a fan: "You know, I can't believe they're not going to do another Arkham, but they're not." Though, if Project Sabbath was, indeed, to star Bruce's son Damian Wayne in the Bat role then perhaps Conroy wouldn't be first in the loop.
Characters depicted in the concept sheets include Two Face and Gorilla Grod in fairly conventional designs, however other villains like White Rabbit, Black Mask and Poison Ivy appear with radical reworks from their other appearances in the Batman oeuvre of work. There is also an adult depiction of Dick Grayson, suggesting a fairly lengthy passage of time in what was rumored to be a direct sequel to Arkham Knight.
We doubt we'll see any more details of this cancelled Damian Wayne Batman game, Project Sabbath, or if it ever made it past this concept phase, but the seeds were all here for what could have been a fun reshuffle of the Arkham formula.
